Living, as I do, in Florida, voter suppression is a constant concern of mine. While we have far more Democrats than Republicans in the state, Republicans almost always sweep every election. The reasons are manifold: gerrymandering, dubious vote counting, restrictions on people of color, but it all adds up to voter suppression.

In many ways, Georgia is even worse. Voter ID laws, gerrymandering, discarded votes, and more. So why am I rambling on about this?

This piece discusses how the Democratic candidates aren’t addressing voter suppression as part of their campaigns or debates. And I think that’s a mistake. Yes, there’s a lot of other problems to address. Yes, those are important issues. But Trump has constantly pounded the drum about illegal voters, and he’s going to do it again. Free and fair elections are a major concern of voters, and Democrats need to get in front of the issue before Trump starts steering the discussion again.
