Illustration for article titled Trump: Im not stupid! Everyone else: ...

Ah, it was only yesterday when I had a conversation about this whole impeachment deal getting stupider and stupider every single day. So now we come to today’s entry.

You may recall that there was a bizarre “defense of Trump” editorial in The Wall Street Journal, that basically stated that Trump was too stupid to be guilty of crimes. This is a ... novel defense, but it does have the virtue of sounding plausible, since Trump is demonstrably idiotic.

The editorial stated “...while Mr. Trump wanted a quid-pro-quo policy ultimatum toward Ukraine, he was too inept to execute it.” Well okay! I’m no lawyer, but I think that means that if I rob a bank, and trip on the way out the door and knock myself unconscious, I’m in the clear! After all, though I wanted to rob the bank, I was too inept to pull off the crime. Henceforth I shall refer to this as the Three Stooges Defense, because I have no doubt it will be enshrined in law any minute now. As a Floridian I feel compelled to point out that this will be a godsend to Florida Man.

Well, Trump is not having that. According to The Daily Beast, Trump would like everyone to know that he is more than smart enough to commit crimes. He particularly hates the word “inept,” apparently.

So, to sum up:

1. The Wall Street Journal says quit picking on Trump, because he’s too stupid to commit crimes.

2. Trump says he is more than smart enough to commit crimes and he would absolutely get away with it because of his smartitude.

3. The rest of us can only marvel at the dazzling rhetoric presented by both sides.
